Order of Steps for Maximizing

Results of This Reading Improvement Training

(Ideal Progression of Steps)

The student should do the following in the order specified:

  1. 1.Student first reads the short introduction (four articles) to the Proportional Reading program, so as to have a general understanding of what benefits the program can provide, and how and why it will be helpful. Read the following four short articles in order: Article 1, Article 2, Article 3, Article 4. Next, the student can optionally request a free, live, 1-on-1 Demo over the Internet.

  2. 2.Student writes a one-two sentence statement of what he or she most wants help with in improving reading and studying. Student will present this statement to the coach/instructor (if using one) at the beginning of instruction, or by advance e-mail. This will enable the coach/instructor to make sure he or she addresses the student’s needs.

  3. 3.Student does the first five steps of our Free Reading Improvement Course, called Client Instruction. The student does this with a coach/instructor, or working independently. This should take an hour to complete. This assignment is available free on the Internet, from any connected computer or iOS device. Click here to go to Client Instruction.

  4. 4.Student gets two other students to examine this site.

  5. 5.Student participates in a second hour of instruction. During this second hour of instruction, student will learn how to further increase comprehension and reading speed with the Proportional Reading approach. During this session, the student learns how to overcome subvocalization and how to hear an inner voice, without speaking, whispering or moving ones lips. The student also learns how to turn descriptive text into pictures and movies as he or she reads. To do this the student does Steps 6 and 7 of the Client Instruction.

  6. 6.Student does Step 8  of the Client Instruction, working with a coach/instructor, or independently, on his or her own. During this session the student learns how to apply the principles just learned for overcoming subvocalization to reading regular text, paginated by paragraphs. This instruction takes a third hour. This assignment is available free on the Internet, from any connected computer or iOS device. This step consists of watching 16 short movies in turn, after first reading the associated text for each movie.

  7. 7.Student spends a fourth hour working independently, or with coach/instructor if using one, learning how to set up and run program on either an iOS device or a Mac computer; and how to improve basic reading with this approach, using VoiceOver. Note: Whether or not you are using a coach, read the Setup, Operation of Controls, and Specific Tips sections in the manual for the device you are using.

  8. 8.Student reads Chapter 3 in the Manual: General Tips for Reading.

  9. 9.Student practices these new concepts on assigned reading and on free reading, using VoiceOver, getting coaching/instruction as needed. Read Chapter 3 in this Manual to learn how to quickly prepare most news and magazine articles for PR practice.

  10. 10.Student studies advanced reading sections in manual: Chapters 19-24, getting coaching/instruction as needed.

  11. 11. If, in addition, you want to learn how to re-paginate and add blank lines to existing E-text, read Chapters 17-18 of the Manual, getting coaching/instruction as needed.

1-on-1 Tutoring is available as needed. Many people benefit greatly by a few hours of formal instruction. Learn more about the value of a Reading Coach.
